Guest Blog from your Protection Consultant

Guest blogger this time is from John Prescott (no not the politician but your Protection Consultant!). All views are John Prescott's and not of Aviva.

No need to be sceptical about critical illness anymore.

It won’t happen to me, Providers don’t pay out, I’m not confortable discussing it etc. These are typical response an adviser might hear when discussing the sometimes taboo subject of critical illness cover with a client. Recent Aviva news should dispel these myths?

Why Aviva?

As well as outstanding financial strength our Brand is recognised across the world. Aviva has grown from the merger of a number of businesses to become the sixth-largest insurer in the world providing retirement, investments and insurance to 44.5 million customers in over 25 countries. Since forming in July 2002, over 40 brands have migrated to Aviva, and in 2009/10 three of our most significant markets (UK, Ireland and Poland) completed the brand migration to Aviva.

Our critical illness contract (Head to Head) has recently been enhanced which helped Aviva win best critical illness provider at the 2011 financial adviser service awards.

Market leading claims stats

• In 2011 we paid out 99.7% of death claims and 94.1% of critical illness claims.
• In 2011 we paid out £273 million in death claims alone.

Making sure your clients are better protected

We now have a total of 12 ABI+ rated conditions, giving clients better
protection than ever before. Improvements have been made to the cover
for the following conditions:

Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery Paralysis of a Limb
Loss of Hand or Foot Stroke
Multiple Sclerosis Third-Degree Burns

Plus award-winning support when clients need it most

When dealing with a critical illness, the last thing you want clients to endure is
the stress of endless form filling. With Aviva, you can offer your clients:
• An award-winning claims team, experienced in making our claims process
as sensitive and easy as possible for everyone involved, providing clients
with the reassurance they are in capable hands.
• A dedicated contact, who will get in touch with the client at the start
of any claim, making sure to call at a time that best suits them. This key
contact will manage the claim as quickly and efficiently as possible from
start to finish, allowing your client to focus on their recovery.

We also work with Grief Encounter, a charity which helps children to cope with the loss of a loved one. This has helped us to understand the emotional impact on families when they are financially under-protected. Through this relationship we have identified that children can often become the forgotten mourners especially when their family has no financial protection in place. At a time when their lives are already incredibly unsettled, a lack of protection can actually compound the feelings of bereavement.
We believe that being there when it matters most for clients is about more than just a cheque. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Grief Encounter to offer a referral to all children of the life insured on an Aviva policy, where the life insured has died, at point of claim.
